My name is Jake and I live in the almighty Shropshire
near a little town called church Stretton, as you can probably tell
this may be the last place you would have thought of making hip-hop. I
started to rap when I was the tender age of 16 when myself and a friend
were board at work on day and decided to make a beat in our lunch break.
The following Sunday we tried to do our very first song, we were called
pulse and in between eating allot of crisp banquets and playing on some
bullshit computer game where all you do is stroke a cat, we tried to
make some music. At this point in time i had never rapped before and my
friend (robin) had not made a hip-hop beat before although he did play
the piano. Our set up was so basic it was a 4 track tape recorder, a
£10 karaoke microphone and a keyboard, but never the less we made some
music and some of it turned out to be quite good.
Since then we have been working on solo projects and I have tuned my
hand to production, but I will never forget the crisps and music that
we made back in the day. I moved to Liverpool to study sound tech for a
year and there I met many like minded people and did gigs with other
bands and acts, it was a great experience to work with other people and
get different ideas and inputs.
Ok now for a rant... What I am trying to achieve is to bring something
different to the hip-hop world, because lately hip-hop has gone down
the pan, it is full of 50 cents that’s just make bad music and rap
about the size of there dick and not about anything that has any
substance. I have loved hip-hop for years and years but I just feel
that today it is a dying genre, because when anything becomes too
popular then it spirals out of control and turns into something that it
was never meant to be.
So lets put all the commercial crap to one side and try and take
hip-hop to a new place, where that is I don’t know but soon the genre
will either change for the better or self destruct. That was a little
rant, anyway I hope you enjoy my tunes. Peace.
