Low Deep - BiographyLuton-based Reuben Abraham was a mere 17 years old when he tore into the UK’s Grime scene with instant-anthem debut, ‘Straight Flush’. This trail-blazing debut began life as eight bars of beats that Reuben made for a production ‘challenge’ instigated on the popular RWD Magazine online forum. A group of forum members, including producers like Mr Slash, came up with eight bars each to form one track – and Reuben’s contribution was the genesis of ‘Straight Flush’.

As the descriptively dubbed ‘Low Deep’, the talented teenager found a base straight off the bat with local record label Colourful State, an independent imprint established in 2005, specialising in urban music. The label is dedicated to developing UK producers for success and has had a major influence in the UK Grime / Garage scene, garnering world-wide record sales.

The immediate success of ‘Straight Flush’ - which sold over 2000 copies on its initial release - lead the focused, fledgling producer to create a vocal version, which found its way on to the Kray Twinz feat. Twista / Lethal B and Gappy Ranx single ‘What We Do’.

Low DeepFour years on, and Low Deep is one of the most unique, distinctive producers on the scene - recognised and respected for his versatile and vibrant sounds, that lock together elements of Hip Hop, R&B, Classical and even Alternative Rock, whilst acknowledging influences from Grime’s Wiley and Dizzee Rascal and US rappers DipSet.

Four more innovative EPs on Colourful State have secured Low Deep’s status as a leader rather than a follower. The ‘Eyes On Me EP’ and its forerunner, the ‘Take Over EP’ both held number 1 slots in 1Xtra’s UK Garage Charts. Other releases have similarly established Low Deep as a leading Grime producer, such as the anthemic ‘Get Set’ featuring Kano, Ghetto, Big Seac, Demon and Doctor.

Not content to stick within the boundaries of the urban underground scene, Low Deep’s production skills have graced the film industry, appearing on the soundtrack for 2007’s ‘Mister Lonely’, directed by cult movie maker Harmony Korine. You may also have heard Low Deep’s beats on BBC Top Gear and Rio Ferdinand’s World Cup Wind-ups.

Now ready to launch his first producer-as-artist album on Colourful State – titled ‘Unsung’ - Low Deep is about to take it to the next level and show just how diverse he is. Having gathered together some of the hottest names from the scene such as Ghetto, Asher D, Narstie, No Lay and Gappy Ranx, Low Deep is also taking the opportunity to represent rising Luton talent with MCs Frostman, Riddle and APM.

Before the album has even hit the shops, Low Deep is busy working on the follow-up, focusing on bringing through the up and coming stars of the UK’s urban scene.

Intelligent yet tearing, energetic and eclectic, Low Deep continues to carve a niche all of his own within the UK Grime scene and beyond!
