Wretch 32BBC 1Xtra’s ‘Most Street Heat’ award winning artist Wretch 32 has claimed his station in the UK underground scene following the release of ‘Learn From My Mixtape’ mid 2006. Virtually unknown outside his North London quarters at the beginning of 2006, the release of ‘Learn From My Mixtape’ raised the artist to the pinnacle of the underground UK Music industry.

Wretch 32’s debut single ‘Punctuation’ is due for digital release in 8th November 2007 on Naughty Boy Recordings. Wretch 32 is also currently working on his highly anticipated debut album ‘Wretrospective’ which is due for release early next year.

Firstly, why the name Wretch 32?

Wretch 32Wretch 32:
I've always been a wretch in terms of my weight and character and 3 and 2 are my lucky number.

For those who haven't heard of you before, give us a quick rundown of how you got into music?

Wretch 32:
I started out on pirate radio then I progressed with my skills and started writing songs and my first mixtape 'Learn from My Mixtape' was the ice breaker winning me a BBC award and also help me get noticed as an artist. Since then I’ve released two other mixtapes steadily building my fan base.

You've worked with The Streets, what other collaborations can we expect?

Wretch 32:
That would be telling… but let’s just say a UK R&B phenomenon.

Where has been your favourite place to perform apart from home and why?

Wretch 32:
At this year’s Hip Hop Kemp festival because the energy of the crowd was immense. You can see a video of our performance on my Myspace.

What do you hope to bring to the music scene?

Wretch 32Wretch 32: An edutaining style of music which is educational entertaining music.

What is your ultimate ambition?

Wretch 32: To be known as the best rapper in the world.

Who inspires you?

Wretch 32:
Kano, Sway, Dizzie Rascal and the DJ’s.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Wretch 32:
Keisha White, Amy Winehouse and Mr Hudson.

Tell me about your album in progress?

Wretch 32:
Wretrospective will be the best exhibition of music that any artist has ever put together. It will be nothing but entertainment (they shouldn’t have come out before me).

What do you want the people out there to know about you?

Wretch 32:
That music’s my life and living’s my hobby!
