Bonafide Magazine Issue Three Out NowBonafide is an independent bi-annual magazine that aims to highlight hip-hop originators and those that strive to keep it fresh. Bonafide have previously interviewed the likes of Kool Keith, Neon Neon, Peanut Butter Wolf, Flying Lotus, Eine, George Dubose, Ehquestionmark? and Bobbito and are now very proud to present issue 03...

For this new edition of Bonafide they have convinced one of modern music’s most imaginative art directors, and one of their favourite creatives, to design the front cover. Jeff Janks, of Stones Throw records, certainly came up with the goods. His comic book-inspired cut-up of a Strong Arm Steady / Planet Asia / J Rocc photograph is dope to the power of gazillion. Inside the magazine Bonafide delve deep into the psyche of some of the most exciting MCs of the last 20 years including the polemical Mr Lif, renaissance man Raekwon the Chef, avant-garde sound sorcerers Anti-Pop Consortium and native tongue pioneers De La Soul.

For this issue Bonafide also get the lo-down from two of the finest purveyors of modern funk, Malcolm Catto and Dam Funk who reveals he’s “more Gary Numan” than Sly Stone.

Continuing the out-there theme the mag also speaks to an animated Jamaican Commando who lost his arm in a secret zombie war and operates under the guise of a dancehall manager. And the interview with party animal Major Lazer comes straight from the front line.

The magazine also continues the theme of exploration into the art and design of music promotion with Jeff Janks and closer to home, Jonathan Cooke from Village Green, the team behind Fabric’s distinct art direction and countless album covers. Continuing on the UK angle they got down with Sheffield club kid-come-Radio 1 tastemaker Toddla T, beat boxer extraordinaire Shlomo and Task Force’s Farma G, who reveals a sensitive side to the country’s rowdiest rap group.
