Galactic was born in the early '90s, after two Washington DC punks – guitarist Jeff Raines and bassist Robert Mercurio – relocated to New Orleans and found themselves intoxicated by the sounds of the scene that nurtured The Meters, Professor Longhair, the Neville Brothers and Dr. John.
The New Orleans-based frontrunners of futuristic funk have now signed to the Anti- imprint. “From The Corner To The Block”, which was co-produced by the band’s saxophonist Ben Ellman, is out this March and includes guest appearances from an array of today’s most innovative MC’s, including Jurassic 5’s Chali 2na, Quannum’s Lyrics Born, Gift Of The Gab & Lateef the Truth Speaker, Ubiquity’s Ohmega Watts, Mr Lif, The Coup’s Boots Riley, Digable Planets’ Ladybug Mecca, Juvenile and more.
The New Orleans futuristic jazz funk outfit will launch their new album “From The Corner To The Block" at the Jazz Cafe in London and have brought along some special guests to man the mics for the show.
