Jeru The Damaja At The Oobleck, Birmingham - Bank Holiday Sunday 5th April

Brooklyn-born Jeru (Gang Starr Foundation / Crooklyn Dodgers / NYC) spent his early years in the borough’s East New York neighborhood, where he began rhyming at block parties as a youth. He first showcased his hardcore Brooklyn style to audiences on I’m The Man a track from Gang Starr‘s 1992 album Daily Operation.

The following year he released the classic DJ Premier-produced hit single, Come Clean. His first album, The Sun Rises In The East, was released in 1994 – an essential hip hop addition to anyone’s music collection. In ’96 his second, highly acclaimed album, Wrath Of The Math spawned a considerable number of hits including: Ya Playin’ Yaself, One Day, Me Or The Papes and The Bullshit.

The man is still hard at work. His most recent album The Hammer came out last year and features co-labs with such heavyweights as Large Professor and The Beatnuts.
