Nike Midnight Madness is back and Britishhiphop.co.uk will be covering the basketball extravaganza right through to the final, so get involved! Blazing back for 2007, Nike Midnight Madness is on a mission to find the UKs finest basketball players, whilst providing the ultimate spectator experience.
Another year on and the stakes have been raised, as the winners will fly out to
Los Angeles, California for a three game tour on the hallowed courts of
Venice Beach and at The Point Nikes homage to Basketball at a secret location in LA. The UKs leading basketball event is also one of the
hottest tickets in town, with NBA stars Luol Deng and Pops
Mensah-Bonsu heading over from the US for the MM finals night at Crystal Palace, London on 18th August.
A taste of the Midnight Madness flavour can be experienced on this years
extended regional roadshow programme, which will give players a route to qualify for the elite court and the fans a chance to get a piece of the action on their doorstep. The roadshows tip off on Saturday 2nd June at the City Academy, Bristol. The 15 venue tour will entertain spectators and players alike with music, giveaways and MM style commentary as it rolls on to most of the major cities across the UK.
This year free registration for the regional qualifying finals in Manchester
(Northern Final) and London (Southern Final) will be available at the 15
roadshows and
www.midnight-madness.com. The website also features full details on the
unique MM Ball Without Bias scoring system. In addition to the official website which launches on the 8th June, MM will have a unique Myspace page
www.myspace.com/midnightmadnessuk to offer ballers and spectators the
opportunity to post video clips, pictures and comments about the competition as it hots up.
In true Midnight Madness style, the Northern and Southern qualifying finals will tip off from 8pm and ballers will play into the small hours of the morning (6am). Spectators can watch all the action courtside or have some time out in the chill out lounge, cinema and gaming zone. At the end of both nights, the 10 players who amass the most points will be invited to go head to head at the showcase final, hosted in Crystal Palace on Saturday 18th August (in front of 3,000 spectators).
Nhamo Shire, Midnight Madness Director said: As we saw last year,
its not just about the big names we had a few guys who arent even attached
to any teams make it all the way through to the big finals. Hungry up and coming players going against established stars from street to elite and all levels in between, all putting their skills on the line to see who rises to the top. As ever, its a one-of-a-kind event, and makes for an electrifying atmosphere from start to finish with the eventual winners heading off to LA to represent the UK and continue the job done by last years winners who beat the best of the US on their home turf.
