Breakbeat - State Of MindTalented musicians are becoming an increasingly rare commodity, but one youngster aims to buck that trend. Breakbeat is a charismatic drummer and rapper from east London, who is destined to become one of Britain’s best-known performers.

He may be only 21 years old, but Breakbeat has already recorded with artists such as R&B singer Brandy; appeared on BBC 2’s Later with Jools Holland; and performed alongside artists such as Kanye West, Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, SWV and Montell Jordon.

Breakbeat - State Of MindBreakbeat’s own music is best described as a universal sound. This unique fusion of jazz, rock, hip-hop and R&B has helped him sell almost 10,000 copies of his debut release UKSPecial, a clear indication of his massive potential.

State Of Mind is a easy going affair in which the drums are obviously brought to the forefront, but there are also graceful female vocals in the chorus. The production’s soft synths lay the backing for Breakbeat to deliver messages about how he believes in God, but also intermingles this with the harsh realities of street life and the horrors it can bring. Really Breakbeat is on a very conscious tip and the main upshot is that it is not cool to be a gangster and carry on all mad. He urges his listeners to come together to try and reduce the occurrence of gun crime.

Some describe his music as ‘urban,’ but Breakbeat disagrees. ‘I’m a pop artist because the music I make is popular, life-changing music’. Having established himself as one of the leading drummers on Britain’s underground music scene, Breakbeat’s next goal is to build a sizable fanbase. To do this, he will be performing and touring across the country over the next few months, so keep your eyes and ears open for this star of the future – you won’t be disappointed!
