Skrein - The Weary Traveller / Drug Music CD [Dented Records]Skrein is a razor-tongued North Londoner with a release schedule to rival even the most hard-working artists. Having been touted as ‘one to watch’ by the likes of DJ 279, the industrious MC currently has two albums in the pipeline, but kicks off his 2007 releases with ‘The Weary Traveller’, available exclusively via download from June 4th.

The first single to be taken from the forthcoming ‘The Eat Up Mixtape’ is a breezy, summertime head-nodder. Hip hop baby god DJ IQ produces a beat laden soundscape for Skrein’s poised, expressive flow, while long time Foreign Beggars collaborator Graziella adds soulful lamentations, reminiscent of Jill Scott, on the hook.

Tracklist:
A: The Weary Traveller
AA: Drug Music (2007-2001)
Following the old adage of “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” the trio return on the flipside ‘Drug Music (2007-2011)’; a hazy meandering through the smoke-filled Skrein mind. A sedated lounge track exclusive to this single, Skrein’s laid back delivery is interwoven with Graziella’s silky, soulful vocals, drawing you into their murky realm of musical decadence – “We just wanna make love music / Beautiful, pharmaceutical drug music”.

Skrein has been making noise on the underground for a while now as part of the Underground Alliance (UNDALI).  Having collaborated with the likes of SkinnyMan, Task Force, Plan B and more he’s now drafted in boy-wonder IQ on production duties. At only 20 years old, DJ IQ already has a DMC title, time as Jehst’s tour DJ, an album and a few mixtapes under his belt and on this single shows why his lo-fi, jazzy cocktails of beats are becoming the tracks of choice for the more discerning UK MC.

Skrein’s ‘The Weary Traveller’ arrives on June 4th, keep an eye out for ‘The Eat Up Mixtape’ out later this summer.
