Knowa Lazarus is a Filipino master wordsmith born and raised in Queens, but is now resident on both coasts with a base in Glendale, California as well. At the age of 16 he accidentally fell into MCing, but he has certainly learned to work it and can come with some heat. He is also the co-founder of Q-York Entertainment which is the label which has released his debut LP.

Blade released his first record way back in 1989 and since then he has become one of the most influential and consistent UK acts. Many have complained that his subject matter has become samey and that he has not developed his vocal style for a while, but as one of the UK’s Hip Hop elder statesmen Blade deserves more respect than that. |

Indiens are a crew from Colarado who are repping for the indigenous peoples of North America. The crew Indiens is a trio comprising: Arohed, Talksik, and K. The band is also currently featuring Red Giant. When we spoke to Talksilk he explained that the Indiens bring you voices from the reservation, the street, and the heartland.

This duo come straight out of Chicago and due to their immense efforts in their locale they have earned the title of Chicago’s hardest working rhyme duo. Abstract Mindstate aka MOD (Misfitz of Dialogue) are a female – Ebony Poetess (The Hellcat) and a male – Ice Gre. They formed in Mississippi back in 99 when they were known as the Stewpot Stowaways.

This purely UK mix CD is from the beginning to the end a collection of classics with a liberal sprinkling of exclusives from the cream of UK Hip Hop. The CD is the first release from the mega UK Hip Hop website - UKHH.com and every single person I have spoken to about this so far has rated the CD as a classic.

Da Mercenaries aka DMS are a Hip Hop duo from the North West of the UK, Warrington to be exact. Currently they are both 19 years old and are looking to bring their style to the UK urban music scene. The two members are called Yung B, the main MC in the group and Joy-Rider who is mostly the producer, but is also known to pick up the mic on occasion.

This is apparently a download only CD which is available from www.shortyonline.co.uk for the month of April and available for purchase thereafter. Shorty are also known as the Seven Head Army and are a seven piece Hip Hop band. They are able to mix styles from Funk to Rock and have a bit of a following as a live phenomenon.

This is apparently Leeds’ first Hip Hop compilation. Coming from Leeds originally, this is something which interests me. Leeds has always had a vibrant Hip Hop scene and this CD brings together some of the current talent. The CD features already established artists like Breaking The Illusion and Junkyard Tactics. |
