Dubbledge - The Richest Man In Babylon LP [Lowlife]Undoubtedly the cleverest MC in the UK right now and one of the few that can bridge the gap between the energy of Grime and the lyricism of Rap, Dubbledge’s first album for the UK’s cult Hip Hop label Low Life is a bumper collection of tracks laced with a welcome dose of intelligence, wit and a charismatic swagger.

IRS, Tru Ruts, GroundWurq, Chief Wigz @ Diffrent Strokes 29/8/07Working nine to five is a bitch sometimes. On the plus side, thanks to the 37-odd hours a week I spend putting up with other people's BS, I am more or less financially solvent on a good month. On the downside, all those early mornings can leave one a little drained of a night.

The Quantic Soul Orchestra - Tropadelico LP [True Thoughts]The Quantic Soul Orchestra has sold over 60,000 albums worldwide to date and the music has been licensed to 100’s of compilations and TV programmes worldwide. The first three QSO albums pioneered the sound now being made popular by Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson. Last year Mr Ronson phoned Will Holland (the man behind the QSO) to ask if he could help him put together the live Mark Ronson band with members of the QSO, which we think gives an indication as to how far the QSO sound has traveled.

Abdominal - Workout 12" [Antidote / Handcuts / Do Right!]Abdominal first grabbed the attention of students and hipsters everywhere in 2001, when he appeared on an early release by Brighton-based DJ Format, a painfully retro piece of conceptual kitsch-hop entitled "Ill Culinary Behaviour". That track, and I would imagine the majority of the duo's collaborative efforts since, re-worked the seam of sickly nostalgia already thoroughly mined by Jurassic 5, positing in its every tone and nuance that life was better at some unspecified point in the late Eighties and that we should all go back to wearing Adidas sportswear and spinning on our heads whilst watching Yo! MTV Raps.
