Nat Illumine

Nat Illumine

Nat Illumine is an established writer and former Chief Editor of the infamous Undercover Magazine. She has interviewed some of the very best in the game and flown the flag in support of British talent for many years. She is very much woven into the fabric of the British music scene as a resident DJ on Itch FM, combined with her popular monthly warm up residency, entitled “Size Doesn’t Matter” at Ginglik in Shepherds Bush. I sat down with Nat to find out what she’s been up to.

Pimp My Vauxhall

Pimp My Vauxhall

When I was told that Vauxhall were sponsoring a series of competitions to find the best undiscovered talent in the fields of UK urban dance and vocals, I was understandably sceptical.  Since time immemorial (okay, maybe not that long but it’s been a while), old men in suits have been on a remorseless mission to associate mediocre products with all that’s hip, happening and street, with results that could politely be described as “mixed”.

Idris Elba

Idris Elba

You may know him from his role in the hit US television show The Wire, where he played Stringer Bell: the Machiavellian drug dealer who everyone loved to hate. Or you may know him as DJ Driis, the reputable DJ with a dedicated following, but britishiphop.co.uk is about to introduce you to IDRIS the rapper.

Cipher Sounds - Biography

Cipher Sounds – Biography

The original hip-hop group Cipher Sounds was established in South Side Jamaica, Queens, New York in the year 1975. Little more than a year after the originators of the genre; Kool Herc, Afrika Bambatataa, Grand Master Flash and others had created the culture and had begun to guide it through its infant stages in the Bronx, DJs Divine, Understanding, and Divine Justice had the idea to create their own sound system that would play in the parks and community centres of their neighbourhood in Jamaica Queens.

Dubbs - Biography

Dubbs – Biography

At 12 years old, Dubbs was homeless. His parents were addicted to drugs and caught up in a cycle of domestic violence.  Wanting a better life for himself, he found the inner strength to stay in school and excel in sports. Dubbs put himself through college where he made his mark in basketball and wound up one knee-injury away from the NBA.

Ed209 – StayExstatic EP [VRD]

We like Ed209 here and have given rave reviews to his previous production work on the earlier Exstatic based EPs. We are a bit confused as we have noticed another Ed209 doing some Dubstep or some other such stuff and we wondered if this was the same guy turning his skills to another genre. Well, never mind, he is now back to hip hop and for this, the last of the proposed Exstatic EPs he has pulled out all the stops with the vocalists he has got to perform over his beats.
