Soweto Kinch – Biography

An award winning alto-saxophonist, Soweto Kinch is one of the most exciting and versatile young musicians on the British Jazz (& also hip hop) scene. The Kinch, self taught with a love of hip hop, weaves an entangling web of spoken word, rap and jazz sax and whilst his music is firmly rooted in jazz, Soweto has been deeply influenced by artists such as De La Soul, The Roots and Q Tip.

In 1982, at the age of 8, Adam Carter woke up on a Saturday morning, poured himself some cereal, sat down in the living room in front of the TV, turned off the cartoons that he normally watched, and penned his first rhyme. The son of Jamaican immigrants living in the heart of Oakland, he had recently been exposed to the early sounds of hip-hop.

Planet Asia is well known throughout the hip-hop community. As one half of the duo Cali Agents (Planet Asia & Rasco), he has been tearing up airwaves and stages around the globe. Numerous banging 12-inch single releases such as Place of Birth (ABB 1999), Pure Coke (Interscope 2002), and The Golden Age (Threshold 2003) to name a few, ensured his place in hip-hop history.
