Ivor Novello award winnerand Rudimental member Renell Shaw‘s music video for Echo Of A Requiem, the song sits within the Jazz Hip-hop genre. Starting off as a poem the track evolves and adds elements until it transitions to a massive saxophone solo.
Echo Of A Requiem is part of a larger project which pays homage to Renell’s Caribbean heritage and the pioneering voices of the Windrush generation, who began to arrive in England from the West Indies in 1948. It also explores the cultural and psychological impact of colonialism within the triangular trade and how the prejudice that came with it has allowed people to get away with human rights violations from the 16th Century to 2021.
In the video whilst highlighting the lyrics he also wanted to shine a light on black entrepreneurs across a variety of industries.
