Breis (breeze) is a London based rap artist originally from Nigeria. He describes his music as BAM (British-African Music), a fusion of hip hop, jazz and African percussion. He has toured internationally in various countries such as France, Portugal, New York, Mauritius, Norway and Japan to name but a few. He has shared the stage with world class artists such as Afro beat musician Dele Sosimi, Dead Prez, Ty, Les Nubians, Omar Sosa, and Kim Burrell.
His musical journey began in 1997, winning a rap competition and creating a buzz on the London hip hop circuit. In 2001, he released his first single "Sounds So Fresh", receiving attention from DJs on BBC Radio1, Kiss FM and Choice FM. Armed with a writing pad and an MPC sampling machine, Breis continued to work on his production skills and lyrics in Brixton. He released a mixtape (Your Favourite MC) in 2004 and was requested to tour internationally with a live jazz band and an Afro beat band across Europe.
Breis raps from the heart and is a refreshing, witty lyricist dealing with a range of topics that most rappers don’t even consider. His songs are thought provoking, spiritual and infectious with humorous wordplay. He raps mainly in English, but also incorporates Yoruba (Nigeria) and Broken English. Hoping to inspire and uplift his listeners is why his name stands for Brother Reaching Each Inner Soul. To see him perform live is a treat, full of stage presence and charisma; he leaves crowds in a state of bliss. “I believe in the power of words and know that my words can make a difference. It’s all about inspirational rap!” – Breis.
The Identity EP (King Solomon Records) is the latest release from Breis, available on download in March 2008. He will be embarking on a promotional tour this March in the UK and Europe. His forthcoming album, Student Of Life is due for release in June 2008.
