The Harder They Come by Perry Henzell at The Theatre Royal

Theatre Royal Stratford East is buzzing as The Harder They Come smashes all previous box office records! The Harder They Come (written by Perry Henzell and directed by Artistic Director Kerry Michael and Associate Director Dawn Reid), has become the Theatre Royal Stratford East’s best-selling musical – to date!

Ticket sales have already topped a staggering 19,000 (in a theatre with less than 430 seats available for each performance), with the show running at an average of 94% capacity. Sales of The Harder They Come have even overtaken last year’s smash hit show, The Big Life. Not surprisingly perhaps, The Harder They Come has now been extended to Saturday 10 June 2006, making it possibly the longest-running show in the famous old theatre’s long and illustrious history.

Moreover it’s more than a commercial success: the local, national and international press have overwhelmingly supported The Harder They Come stage adaptation. Once again Theatre Royal Stratford East continues to offer the very best in professional, top quality entertainment which embraces diversity and reflects the community it serves.

“Even in the first week, we were seeing repeat customers – bridging all generational gaps and bringing a truly diverse mix of people to the theatre. It’s great to feel the energy and excitement from the audience, before, after and during the show.” – Kerry Michael, Artistic Director Theatre Royal Stratford East

“That we are extending the run at Stratford East is terrific news. Great reviews, capacity houses, eager producers and audiences on their feet and shouting for more have to mean that there is no longer any debate over whether this show will have a further life. It is now just a question of what and when." Jan Ryan – Producer, UK Arts Productions
