Smart KidSmart Kid, has been doing music for roughly seven years, it was only four years back that people noticed he had talent and pushed him to take it a step further. This 21 year old has an incredible work rate, three mix CDs deep with another one in the making and still the hunger has not stopped. Read on to find out what he had to say when Danielle caught up with him.

Who is Smart Kid?

Smart Kid:
Smart Kid was a kid who started this out of love and passion. After several years and growth within this field he has now developed into an all around artist, hence why it is now Smartz.

You have quite a nice achievement list behind you, to date what has been your biggest accomplishment personally and why? It can be within your career or in your daily life.

Smart Kid:
For me personally, I feel my biggest achievement is the progression I have made from an MC to an Artist. That means a lot to me on a personal level, its definitely something I will cherish on this journey we take. to be honest I aim to be the best artist I can possibly be, there is always room for growth and progress.

What was it like to have your single featured in the Adulthood movie?

Smart Kid:
It was a really good feeling to be able to sit in the cinema and watch a film that has used a piece of your music. It was a pleasure to be associated with a nationwide block buster movie.

How would you define your musical style?

Smart Kid:
Its hard to put me in a box with musical style because I started on Grime and now have developed in to making all sorts of music with many styles. I would definitely say I have my own sound and its still developing. Some would call my latest work "Popular" or "Commercially Urban".

The music industry is tough, for those just coming up what advice would you give to them in order for them to walk in your successful footsteps?

Smart Kid:
It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. If you really do believe in yourself then do what you can to make it happen. When people tell you ‘No’, use that as fuel to make them regret that decision. Nobody can stop you from doing what you truly want to do. I still haven't reached the main stage in my career but we have to acknowledge the progress in everything we do. So to everybody chasing their dream, KEEP DOING U!

Smart Kid

Zoned had some major recognition especially through Channel AKA, what was it like to top the grime charts?

Smart Kid:
Felt good to gain that no.1 spot on their website, I know there’s much more to come, I just want to thank everybody for their support. If you haven't seen the video you can do so now at www.smartkidofficial.co.uk

What one thing could you tell us about yourself that you wouldn’t know by looking at you?

Smart Kid:
It depends what you see when you see me?

What do you enjoy doing in life when you are not on the music grind?

Smart Kid:
Spending time with those closest to me and when I get the chance I like to watch movies and eat, lol, lots of eating.

What is your opinion on the current UK music scene?

Smart Kid:
In my opinion it is the strongest its been and its only going to get stronger. Now it really feels as though the world are watching. I am looking forward to see it develop and grow even more and I hope to be a part of that.

The UK has produced some great artists in recent years including N-Dubz, Chipmunk and more recently Tinie Tempah breaking through to the mainstream. Do you look up to artists like these and aspire to follow their direction? Or are you on a whole other path?

Smart Kid:
I respect what they have done for the scene and the progress they have made as individuals as well. Personally I feel I could be on the same platform but a different path. We all have our own lessons to learn. I'm a big N-Dubz fan to be honest, lol.

Your latest single “Red Handed” is already getting a great response from the press and public, How would you describe the song to someone who as of yet has not had the pleasure of hearing it?

Smart Kid:
Its a different style of music, not something that has been used and reused its FRESH! After listening once, the chorus will be in your head, which is a good thing.

What’s next for Smart Kid?

Smart Kid:
More singles, more visuals and I am always looking to better my craft and product. Don't sleep on me, unless you want my success to be your alarm clock. Keep it locked to www.smartkidofficial.co.uk.
