BHH: What first inspired you to "get on the decks"?
DJ Yoda: I guess the music I was listening to as a kid all had a lot of samples and scratching in it. There was a period in the 80s when you would get those kind of sounds in pop records - by people like Neneh Cherry, Coldcut and S-Express. So I was just trying to emulate that sound at home, using my parents' record player.
BHH: What first influenced you to add visuals to your sets?
DJ Yoda: I always liked to include audio samples from my favourite movies and TV shows into my DJ mixes. So when the technology advanced to allow DJs to scratch and mix the actual movies themselves, it just made perfect sense for me.
BHH: Technology is advancing rapidly with regards to aiding a DJ's set. How do you think this is going to affect a DJ's performance, say within the next five years?
DJ Yoda: Things are changing very fast. Every year I change my DJ set-up. So it's hard to predict whether things will always be like this, or whether they will reach some kind of natural conclusion. I'm all for it, as long as it helps DJs bring something new and creative to the art-form.
BHH: With technology moving forward rapidly your tools needed to do what you do must have changed in the last ten years. What equipment do you use now?
DJ Yoda: Right now? A Pioneer DJM 900 SRT, a Pioneer SP 1, Serato and two trusty Technics 1210s.
BHH: How do you take a set created in the studio to a live performance situation?
DJ Yoda: I do everything live, so I try and read the crowd as much as possible. Because I play a really wide range of music, I'm then free to take it off in any direction that I think will work.
BHH: You have also created music for TV, Film and adverts. How did that come about?
DJ Yoda: Mostly through people I've known, and having the reputation as a DJ / producer who loves working with video I guess.
BHH: What has been the highlight of your career so far?
DJ Yoda: Getting to record two tracks with my childhood favourite rapper Biz Markie.
BHH: Any advice for aspiring DJ's / Producers?
DJ Yoda: Stay honest to your own tastes, that way you will automatically sound original.
BHH: Your Favourite DJ to watch?
DJ Yoda: Q-Bert. Mesmerising for scratching.
BHH: Tour Dates and Social contact details?
