Team members have backgrounds in graphic design, 3D design, websites, graffiti, events, building and sign writing and, in recent years, have been taking on projects of varying scales in terms of size and complexity – producing large scale spray projects for brands, sponsors and festivals in the UK and abroad. Their first visit to Qatar as a team was in February 2006, when they were a huge success at the first Wheels ‘n’ Heels event.
When they are not working on commission pieces, the young men run regular workshops with young people, teaching them creative skills with paint. They will be encouraging young spectators at today’s event to step up and “have a go” on the large-scale work, under their supervision.
Sponsored for the event by Conoco-Phillips, de5ign4 will also put their skills to use on the exterior wall of Reach Out To Asia’s new office building on Al Luqta Street, opposite Qatar Foundation’s Education City – leaving a permanent reminder of their presence for the foreseeable future!
About Wheels ‘N’ Heels
In February 2006, the concept of an annual event named Wheels ‘n’ Heels was put into action with the help of dedicated volunteers with the aim of involving the community in a fun-filled day whilst raising awareness about the vision and mission of Reach Out To Asia. With around 10,000 people in attendance throughout the different aspects of the event, it was considered a success in many ways. The emphasis of the event was to target the youth of Qatar and provide the local community with the opportunity to be active in a safe controlled manner.
All this whilst raising funds to help provide education to underprivileged children throughout Asia. The involvement of the Royal Family plus several prominent celebrities and athletes added to the enjoyment as children had the opportunity to cycle alongside some of their favorite stars.
The concept of wheels and heels allows people of all ages and abilities the chance to participate including mothers with push-chairs and people in wheelchairs. Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2007 will actively promote the same values, and aims to be a quality, dynamic, fun community event. Qatar Cycling Federation will be an active organizer with ROTA and the event will be promoted in close cooperation with the Tour of Qatar.
About Reach Out To Asia (ROTA)
ROTA is a non-government organization (NGO) which operates under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, a private, chartered, non-profit organization founded in 1995 by His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of Qatar.
