He was born in the inner city environment of London, among a back drop of council estates, deprived communities, drug abuse and gang culture, an environment which has provided endless inspiration for his written material. At a young age he discovered a passion for literature and music which progressed into a talent for writing and performing lyrics.
Kingpin began his career as a Hip Hop artist by appearing on the London underground hip hop scene where he gained a reputation for his energetic performances, intricate flow and hard hitting lyrical content. As Kingpins profile grew, he founded a creative company called Underworld Konnect, through which he masterminded the independent releases of his own solo project called The Initiative and a collaborative project under the guise of Caxton Press entitled Shame the Devil.
Both of the these music projects were critically acclaimed following their publication, receiving praise from Hip Hop legends such as De La Soul and Chuck D (Public Enemy), written coverage from N.M.E, Metro Paper, SBTV, Kmag and DJ Magazine. Radio support from Capital Xtra, Kiss, Reprezent, Xfm, Whoa, Oxjam and Itch FM among others and music videos broadcasted on the likes of 4music and Channel AKA. The project was also voted album of the year by the readers of Wordplay Magazine and a request to have his material submitted to the British Library.
This coverage has aided to raising Kingpins profile in the Hip Hop scene and given him the opportunity to work among Hip Hops elite, performing his material in the USA and across numerous countries and cities in Europe, where he has established a large and continually growing fan-base.
