Calling All Musical Artists! 2007 Musical Theatre WorkshopAre you ready to rise to the challenge and put your talents to the test? Are you a music artist (Garage, Hip-Hop, Bashment, RnB, and Pop), lyricist, composer or writer (storytellers, performance poets, and novelists)? Then Theatre Royal Stratford East wants you to take part in their 2007 Musical Theatre Workshop to meet other artists and discover how to use your talent to tell your stories through musical theatre.

Since 1999 Stratford East has run a series of annual full-time Musical Theatre Workshops to experiment in using all manner of contemporary popular music in theatre. It brings together music artists who are all known artists in their own fields, but who may not have written for theatre before.

Past participants have also gone on to write, compose and direct on shows such as Da Boyz, The Big Life which transferred to the West End and The Harder They Come. The Musical Theatre Workshop course was also the subject of a recent Channel Four documentary ‘Rappin at the Royal’.

Fred Carl and Robert Lee lecturers and professional musical writers will lead this year’s course; both are from the Tisch School of the Arts in New York and have led the workshop since its inception. Through guidance and collaboration, participants will explore how to create modern musical.

The Musical Theatre Workshop is a full time commitment from 9th – 27th July 2007.
