I wrote these lyrics while helicopters were flying overhead and sirens blazed through the streets, I felt upset at the misrepresentation of my community and culture as a whole and wanted to speak out as i believe many others would like to do too. I was also alarmed by the reckless attitudes of those who have given up on the system and felt that only people from the community could reach out to them before things spiralled out of control.

IBMCs headed up to Finland to find out more about Finnish Hip Hop. We interviewed Laineen Kasperi, Redrama and Jonti and Shaka. In the Finnish Hip Hop scene most of the rap is in Finnish. One of the biggest emcees to rap in English is known as Redrama. He is a Helsinki-based rapper and producer. His first breakthrough was by winning the Finnish MC-Championship in 2001, the same year his first EP came out.
The Languages of Global Hip Hop is a book that examines Hip Hop music in Germany, France, Egypt, Hungary, South Korea, Greece, Cyprus, Norway and the US. It is the work of academics who have gained insights about sociolinguistics from this study. I caught up with the editor on skype to see what some of her views were.
Fresh from signing a distribution deal with Essential Music & Marketing, South London rapper Fem Fel released his debut album Eyes Closed on 27 June 2011. The first single taken from Eyes Closed Runnin (produced by Rymez, featuring Lily McKenzie) was released in December 2010, with follow up viral sensation Put It In A Bag (produced by Dan Dare, featuring Blade Brown) in January 2011. The rap / club track featured video appearances by various artists including Skepta, Tinie Tempah, Giggs and G FrSH.
