Dizzee Rascal To Publish His StoryCanongate Books is delighted to announce a worldwide joint venture with Dirtee Books, the newly formed publishing arm of British rapper and producer Dizzee Rascal’s Dirtee Stank Recordings label.

The first release, provisionally entitled The Dizzee Rascal Story, will be published this October as an innovative joint venture between Canongate and Dirtee Stank, the record label owned and run by Dizzee.

Dizzee Rascal is widely regarded as one of the biggest music artists of the decade. His debut album, Boy in da Corner, won him the Mercury Music Prize in 2003, while the following two albums were both certified gold. His latest album, Tongue 'n' Cheek, has just gone platinum, and he recently became the first British solo artist ever to attain three consecutive Number Ones on his own independent label. His success at this year’s BRIT Awards - at which he was awarded Best British Male Solo Artist - further confirmed his place as one of the country’s best-known and best-loved stars.

Dizzee RascalWhile the bare bones of Dizzee’s remarkable background are well known, many of the defining truths of his life have so far remained private. The Dizzee Rascal Story will provide a much more intimate insight into the real story behind the charismatic young artist. From the family secrets that defined his troubled upbringing, to the truth about the near-fatal multiple stabbing that almost ended his career just as it was beginning, this riveting memoir will lift the lid on a life lived at a break-neck pace. Dizzee will co-write the book with the music journalist and author, Ben Thompson, who has been covering his career since before the release of his debut album.

The deal was negotiated between Nick Davies, Editorial Director at Canongate Books and Nick Detnon at Dirtee Stank Recordings. Canongate and Dirtee Stank will co-publish as an illustrated hardback – complete with lyrics and original photography – in October 2010 and in paperback in summer 2011. The two companies are also planning to release an audio book and a groundbreaking digital edition.

Nick Davies, Editorial Director at Canongate says, “Not only is Dizzee one of the most talented and innovative musicians alive today, he is one of the most articulate and opinionated - as his lyrics testify. We are incredibly proud to welcome Dizzee to the list and are excited to be collaborating in this unique venture with Dirtee Stank. It promises to be a genuinely groundbreaking book”.

Nicholas Detnon, Director of Dirtee Books says, “It has been an incredible journey, not only for Dizzee but for Dirtee Stank Recordings as a label & now as a publisher. We are very much looking forward to working arm in arm with Canongate Books, to cap a truly amazing year”.
