Fresh Styles Film FestivalThe UK’s first ever film festival dedicated to Hip Hop Culture. Scouring this Hip Hop planet for the most surprising, interesting and hard-hitting manifestations, the festival showcases distinctive and groundbreaking mix of documentaries, features, music videos and experimental shorts.

Fresh Styles aim is to reflect Hip Hop’s status as a progressive medium of entertainment, celebrating its unique relationship with visual media. Based on a platform of accessibility and diversity the aim is to attract an audience composed of people from all backgrounds, cultures and places.

The Mission: To inform, educate, provoke and entertain.

Upcoming 2007 Events

Friday 6th July - Graffiti Night Special:
A very special night dedicated to Graffiti culture. Featuring a montage of excerpts from iconic films such as Style Wars and Wild Style plus a host of rarely seen and new footage, new shorts and a special preview of the forthcoming Rarekind Gallery documentary.

Plus a super rare opportunity to hear from and talk to two original pioneers of graffiti, Tracy 168 and Duro CIA, in a unique Q&A.

Saturday 7th July - Electro Rock / Bombin’ / Planet B-Boy preview:

This exclusive screening revisits the seminal films from the first wave of British Hip Hop culture in the early 1980’s: Richard Gayer’s hugely important 1985 documentary Electro Rock (following the legendary Hippodrome gig of the same year) and Bombin’ the first film to document the UK Graffiti scene.

In addition, Fresh Styles will be screening three exclusive previews of forthcoming B-boy films: Planet B-Boy, Inside the Circle and Crutch. Plus a Unique Q&A session with UK B-boy and B-girl pioneers: Hanifa ‘Bubbles’ Hudson ( the UK’s first B-girl, The B- Boys), Danny Price ( from the legendary Broken Glass) and King B and B-boy Suspence (All Elements).

Wednesday 11th July - South Coast + Kitchen Diaries and Best of Brighton Hip Hop videos.
Ok, so they might be showing off here, but on the 11th July FRESH STYLES presents an evening totally dedicated to celebrating Brighton’s thriving Hip Hop scene. 4 years in the making, a completely new edit with many new scenes, South Coast is finally ready to rep Brighton! A funny yet passionate feature length documentary that looks back at the history of Hip Hop in Brighton through to today’s burgeoning scene.

Also showing….
Kitchen Diaries ( ) Sketch featuring the UK Beatbox Champion Beardyman… has to be seen to be believed.

Some of the best music videos to have come out of Brighton… complete with audience vote and prize for the winner!
