Smirnoff Serves Up Entertainment Cocktail In Manchester

Smirnoff Original Nights is pleased to announce the Manchester debut of the genre-busting Smirnoff Electric Cabaret at the Manchester Academy on November 27th 2008, for another unforgettable celebration of originality in nightlife.

Defying the laws of a conventional night out, the event will feature electro-pop crossover king Sam Sparro, ably supported by Pat Mahoney & Juan Maclean, Das Pop, Devil's Gun and a host of jaw-dropping cabaret acts. Serving up an utterly delicious and powerful blend of pop, soul and funk, Sam Sparro’s debut single "Black & Gold", dubbed ‘the disco anthem of the year’, stormed both charts and dance floors with his signature sound. Sam’s self-titled debut album was also greeted with rave reviews and only served to strengthen his reputation as a pop star for the 21st century.

As part of LCD Soundsystem, Pat Mahoney has celebrated two Grammy nominations (for the self-titled debut album ‘LCD Soundsystem’ and the classic ‘Daft Punk Is Playing At My House’) and received critical acclaim for the band’s second album released earlier this year, ‘Sound of Silver’. For the Smirnoff Electric Cabaret, Mahoney will be performing an exclusive DJ set whilst DFA label mate Juan Maclean celebrates 20 years of Acid House with a rare “Live Acid” set using a pair of Roland 303 Rhythm Masters; the old-school synthesisers that revolutionised dance music in the 80s and 90s.

The night will also see Soulwax protégés Das Pop take to the stage. Three parts Belgian and one part Kiwi, the band's spirited guitar-pop is hummable, danceable and utterly infectious. Having already supported the likes of Justice and returning from a triumphant Bestival debut, the  guys from Belgium are pulling no punches and all the right poses and executing it all onstage with total professionalism.

Completing the sonic offering will be Devil’s Gun. Described by Music Week as “possessing the energy and style of an early Basement Jaxx, but with a broader musical palette”, the East-London duo’s hard hitting productions provide the perfect amalgamation of electro, breakbeat, house and gritty synths. Having rocked venues from Shoreditch to The Secret Garden Party, the band has built up a passionate following for their driving tunes and high energy performances.

Breaking up the musical offering, will be a selection of off-the-wall cabaret performers making the impossible possible before your eyes. On stage will be contortionist Rubber Boy, Yo-Yo maestro Arron Sparks, breakdancers, human beatboxers and even a Human Slinky! At the event, guests will also be encouraged to transform themselves for the night by delving into a fancy dress box and will also be introduced to out of the ordinary drinks experiences.

Having first made its mark in 2006 at London’s Koko, with art-popsters Fischerspooner and man-becomes-6ft-balloon-act Bruce Airhead, the Smirnoff Electric Cabaret has gone from strength to strength entertaining crowds at sold out shows in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Ibiza.  After another spectacular show at Glasgow’s ABC in April 2008 featuring the talents of electro-funksters New Young Pony Club, Smirnoff Electric Cabaret is ready to take the Manchester Academy by storm.
