ckone, the fragrance from Calvin Klein, joined forces with Emap’s Kiss Network and Global Radio’s Galaxy Network in a unique DJ talent search to find the best new mixing DJ in the UK and crown ‘the ckone’.
Budding turntabilists from across the UK uploaded their mixes to be in with a chance of winning a fantastic, fully inclusive trip for two to New York (the home of ck), plus £1,000 spending money, accommodation, a set of Technics decks and DJ Software, a slot at a DMC event, a one-off hour long radio show, plus the chance to spend time in the studio with top music producers and have a track released.
The panel of music industry experts, comprising of Killa Kela, DJ Swerve (Kiss), Andi Durrant (Galaxy), Rafik (DMC World DJ Champion) and Dipesh Parmar (Ministry of Sound), had their work cut out judging the high calibre of entries on style, technique and music selection…varying from deep house to banging hip hop.

Joshua Hodge, aka DJ @War, proved he had the deck-sterity to beat other hopefuls to be crowned ‘the ckone’ live on-air during the special ckone radio show, which aired across the Kiss and Galaxy networks.
"Its unbelievable winning the ‘are you the ckone?’ competition. I’m completely speechless. I can’t wait to hit New York – it was where hip hop was born. I’ve been a hip hop DJ all my life, so I have always wanted to go back to New York and pay homage to the originators of the art.”- DJ @War, the ckone.
DJ @War will be hitting the studio early next year, with producers Riley & Durrant, to start work on his own material and then he will be jetting of to New York, the home of ckone… watch this space.
