With each day that passes, the prospect of Spanish sun, sea and Sangria draws a little closer for those lucky enough to have snapped up a ticket for this year’s Benicássim festival. Preparing to swap Singing in the Rain for Singing in the Sun, British music fans can look forward to the most successful and most anticipated Benicássim festival to date, as more than 45,000 people a day are expected to pass through the Benicássim gates this July.
To ensure that festival goers get the best possible experience this year, those fantastic folks over in Spain have pulled out every stop to maximise your viewing and listening pleasure. Improving entrance gates to ensure the ease of people flow, revamping the rest areas to let you ‘chillax’ between bands and expanding the food and beverage facilities, are all high on the agenda this year.
Also high on their list of priorities is keeping the festival eco friendly. Recycling, responsible water consumption and compensation for CO2 emissions, are the name of the game this year. Yourope (the European Festival Association) recently recognised Benicássim’s efforts by honouring them with the Green ‘n’ Clean Award. The accolade is only given to festivals that demonstrate environmental responsibility, protect natural resources, and compensate for their negative impact on the environment.
Having already confirmed Oasis, Kings Of Leon, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Paul Weller, Lily Allen, Glasvegas, Elbow, Maximo Park, Peaches, The Horrors, The Mystery Jets and Peter Doherty few would disagree that FIB Heineken could now be the best festival of 2009! In light of this year’s phenomenal ticket sales, (and the fact that the festival will be celebrating its 15th birthday), many are tipping this year’s bonanza to be the best yet. Backed by the man behind The Hop Farm Festival and founder of the Mean Fiddler, Vince Power, FIB Heineken will take place from July 16th – 19th on the beautiful east coast of Spain.
