Tinchy Stryder Calls For Nominations For The Vinspired National Awards 2009Tinchy Stryder, the UK ’s biggest selling male solo artist this year, is today announced as the ambassador of the vinspired national awards 2009. Celebrating the achievements of 16-25 year old volunteers, Tinchy is supporting the awards event to help recognise the outstanding contributions young people have made to their community over the last year through all forms of volunteering. Dragon’s Den star James Caan is also supporting the awards.

Nominations are now open for the awards, which will take place in November. Developed by v’s youth panel v20, the awards recognise exceptional individuals who have made a big difference to other people or the environment and will be voted for by a young panel of judges across England.

Tinchy said: “I think the vinspired national awards are a good thing and I am happy to be involved. The work the volunteers are doing to help their community is really positive. If you know someone who volunteers in their spare time then you should definitely nominate them - just go to the website www.vinspired.com/nationalawards.

Ex-Wimbledon, youth player Tinchy launched the awards today with a football game with charity Street League, a vinvolved group that uses the power of sport to transform the lives of disadvantaged people. Street League uses a structured football and education programme to help build confidence, improve health, extend social networks and develop skills towards long-term education, employment and independence.

The nominations will be open until the end of August and are broken down into 10 categories, rewarding both individuals and projects:

  • The Fresh Award for the best new volunteer+
  • The Eco Award for the environment
  • The Energy Award for outstanding contribution
  • The Genius Award for innovation and creativity
  • The Unite Award for team activity
  • The Bridge Award for community cohesion
  • The Shout Award for campaigning
  • The Legend Award for Outstanding Leadership
  • The Inspired Award for the most inspirational volunteer
  • The Transform Award for exceptional community impact

The vinspired national awards have also been supported by the business community with James Caan and the Youth Ambassador for the London Mayor’s office, James Cleverly, acknowledging the awards as a valuable recognition of the achievements of volunteers over the past 12 months.

Dragon’s Den Star James Caan also supports the vinspired national awards and says, “I am thrilled to be part of the vinspired national awards. It’s about time we recognise young people for the contribution they make to their communities though volunteering and it is also an opportunity to showcase the experience volunteers can get that may help them move in the right direction when looking for work. These awards will recognise some of the great work these young volunteers do, so if you know someone suitable between 16 and 25, please nominate them at www.vinspired.com/nationalawards.

Adrito Francisco, a volunteer for Street League and himself a beneficiary of the work the project does said: ‘I am so pleased that vinspired has launched the national awards. As someone who has directly benefited from the work that volunteers do, and now as a volunteer myself, I think it’s great that volunteers are being recognised for the brilliant work that they do to help other people’.

v's Chief Executive, Terry Ryall, said: “At v, we believe in giving amazing young volunteers the recognition they deserve. That’s why over the last year we have been working with our v20 members to develop ten new national awards. These exciting new awards, developed by young people, will enable us to recognise exceptional individuals, who have made a big difference to other people or the environment. To join us in celebrating a new generation of young volunteers, all you to do is nominate them now for one of these awards!”

The vinspired national awards will be taking place on Thursday 26th November 2009 at IndigO2 at London ’s O2 Arena.
