Tinho, Pato And Flip

O Contemporary – one of the UK’s leading contemporary art spaces is excited to announce the first ever UK showing of Sao Paulo’s most celebrated Urban Artists, Tinho, Pato and Flip. The exhibition which is the first of its kind to be held in the Europe will showcase a wide range of innovative techniques and styles not usually associated with more familiar forms of urban art.

Tinho, Pato and Flip are part of what many consider to be one of the world’s most imaginative and original urban art scenes. Their work is a collage of mesmerising elements, a curious combination of words patterns and figures. Stripped of the aggressive posturing so often associated with urban art their work is at once both surprisingly delicate and stunningly original.

Having long boasted a particularly rich and diverse urban art scene, Brazil’s new intuitive free style approach now finds itself at the forefront of the worldwide Graffiti movement.

Tristan Manco, author of the widely acclaimed ‘Graffiti Brasil’ commented, "its fantastic news to hear that a taste of Sao Paulo's graffiti art scene is about to land on our shores. Flip, Pato and Tinho are all extraordinary artists who have developed in the unique atmosphere of Brazil’s graffiti capital. On this city’s streets the rough and the smooth are mixed together. The frenetic cult of pichaçao tagging mixes with free-flowing artistic creation. The attitude is DIY – painting with whatever is available with individual expression. Murals and pieces by these particular artists can be found in neighbourhoods across the city, while in recent years they have also been developing their work in other mediums".

Tinho, Pato and Flip whose work can be seen on the walls, buildings and public spaces throughout Sao Paulo have been granted permission by Brighton City Council to paint a mural in the heart of Brighton’s famous Lanes on Thursday 21st June.

O Contemporary launched in February 2006 and has quickly established itself as one of the UK’s most exciting contemporary art spaces, showcasing a compelling and diverse selection of work by national and international artists. The size and spaciousness of the gallery (1200 sq ft in total) provides two exhibition areas, one with a dynamic exhibition programme, the other continually offering work by known names and new contemporary talents.

Exhibitions in the first year included the UK’s largest commercial exhibition of work by Takashi Murakami and the first UK gallery showing of Chiho Aoshima.  Other artists exhibited include Damien Hirst, Tracy Emin, Julian Opie, Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Gerald Laing and Bridget Riley, as well as emerging artists Ross Holden, John Simpson and urban artist D*Face.

O Contemporary won the Brighton and Hove Business Awards Best New Business 2006 and is directed by Olivia Connelly.
