Charlie J steps up a gear in 2022 releasing a brand new EP ‘A Moment’s Notice‘ which is out Thursday 31st March via all major streaming/download platforms.
‘A Moment’s Notice‘ is a transatlantic collaboration EP between South Wales based Charlie J who provides the smoothest flows that would not be out of place in the golden era of hip hop, and Ohio’s KwanLi who’s production would be the envy of most modern day beat makers.
The EP sees glove fitting guest appearances from Newport rapper Ogun, MEZCAL and Katy Mumford. With the mixing and mastering expertly provided by fellow Bard Picasso artist and sound engineer Brighty. Inspired by artists such as J Dilla, early-era Kanye West and Common, the result is a love letter to 00s Hip-Hop with some neo-soul underpinned by themes about love, romance and freedom.
The 6 track EP features the single ‘Swiftly‘, released earlier in 2022, a real slow jam that’s a love letter to a special someone. ‘Real‘ featuring rising Welsh talent Ogun highlights how very little real love in the areas they’ve grown up have received, often put down and mocked, but ends up being the driving force that inspires them. ‘Free (interlude)‘ is an equivalent of a voice memo, written on his last shift before becoming a full-time artist, which is complimented by ‘Carried Away‘ which sees Charlie express the emotion of finally being creatively free to do what he loves.
Quoted directly from the EP “I’m from the city where they never used to show love, now every single show they want to show up” showing his rising presence and his coming-of-age EP.
