Christian Scott vs. Scroobius Pip - Love (Sic) CD [Concord Jazz]Take an award-winning, New Orleans born jazz trumpeter and one of the most inventive MCs to come out of the UK in recent years, throw into the studio with some extra help from behind the boards and what do you get? ‘Love (Sic)’ is the answer, a sultry modern love story with a twist, released on Concord Jazz this February.

Go to remixers Full Phatt have re-worked ‘Dialect’, a standout track from Christian Scott’s album ‘Anthem’. The slightly menacing keys and dark harmonies have an added kick, which transforms them into the perfect vehicle for Scroobius Pip’s acerbic lyrics on a class A love affair.

Coinciding with the release of new album ‘Yesterday You Said Tomorrow’, due out on February 8th, ‘Love (Sic)’ showcases a lesser-known side to Scott and his love for hip hop. His style, sensibility and musical talent prove his appeal to both the hip-hop community and jazz purists, and he has performed with the likes of Prince, Mos Def, DJ Muggs, Marcus Miller and Glen Ballard (Aerosmith, Michael Jackson, Dave Matthews). With the release of this track Christian is set to broaden his fanbase further and fans, old and new alike, will also have the chance to catch him live, with two dates at Ronnie Scott’s scheduled to tie in with the album launch.

Since his Concord debut, ‘Rewind That’, Scott has received significant accolades. He was quickly tapped as one of the faces to watch by Billboard, received a Grammy nomination for Rewind That and named one of Ebony’s ‘30 Young Leaders Under 30’. This past year Scott topped the Downbeat 2009 Critic’s Poll for Trumpeter of the Year, and he has appeared alongside George Clooney in the film Leatherheads as well as in the critically acclaimed Jonathan Demme film Rachel Getting Married starring Anne Hathaway.

Scroobius Pip’s breakthrough came with the 2008 track ‘Thou Shalt Always Kill’, alongside producer Dan le Sac. Numerous live dates, festival appearances and an album - ‘Angles’ - followed, and with the follow-up due later this year ‘Love (Sic)’ gives an early indication to expect it to be as original and astute as ever.

Released February 22nd 2010.
