Kid Acne and Jehst - Neon Fogou

The concept of ‘Neon Fogou‘ is explored by Yorkshire’s foremost gatekeepers to the underworld: Kid Acne is joined by Jehst on a cold-veined, whip-smart, taking of brains to another dimension, whether by Billy Brimstone‘s threats of “oversized hoodies pulling out the big guns on you cowards“, or Eddy Fresh stating “we’re on a higher bandwidth/your crew is all static/compliments are backhanded/caught up in semantics“.

Conducting a faded, jaded jazz ensemble, producer Spectacular Diagnostics is suitably sentinel-like as he loops into something between unsettling and supernatural, wanting you to chill until the atmosphere is 10 below.

‘Neon Fogou’ follows the Taja-clashing ‘Flame Wars‘, and ‘Transistors‘, a Hip Hop pile-on featuring Jaz Kahina and Vandal Savage. Support incoming from Don Letts and Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music, ‘Null and Void‘, Kid Acne’s fifth album and his first for London behemoths Lewis Recordings, promises a continuation of Hip Hop delivering the mind-bending with unique every-man know-how.

Spectacular Diagnostics (Westside Gunn, Vic Spencer, Conway the Machine, Nolan the Ninja) is back on the boards for Kid Acne’s latest magical mystery tour, cutting the shackles of screen time and heading back to the great (socially distanced) outdoors with a fresh batch of wavy, chaos theorising boom-bap.
