Lupe Fiasco - Superstar CD [Atlantic Records]2007 proved to be a rollarcoaster ride for the Chicago native, with as many highs as lows for the talented lyricist. However this single sees Lupe emerge triumphant from a year that saw his ego take a bruising.

On ‘Superstar’ the lead single taken from his highly anticipated sophomore album ‘The Cool’, Lupe contemplates the notion of fame with a cynical eye- perhaps the rising Hip Hop star has been feeling the pressures of being in the spotlight.

Nevertheless, Lupe is back, doing what comes naturally to him- making real Hip Hop. Lupe spits self- effacingly, “…wonna believe my own hype but it’s too untrue… too much of a newcomer and too uncool”, over a gentle, piano- led beat.

Accompany this with the haunting vocal talents of ‘American Terrorist’ feature Matthew Santos, and this is bound to be a hit: under and overground. If this single is anything to go by, the album looks set to be a contender for album of the year and we’re not even in February yet.

The single ‘Superstar’ is out on Atlantic Records January 7th.
The album ‘The Cool’ is out January 21st.
