Nneka was born in a small Nigerian town called Warri. It was there at school that she practised her singing. She has recently been based in Germany and has been singing professionally for the last five years.

She says that she draws her influences from artists like Fela Kuti and Bob Marley as well as rappers including Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Mobb Deep and Lauren Hill. Now Nneka is set to drop the first single from her debut LP entitled the Victim Of Truth. Released on Four Music / Yo Mama’s it is set to be a big release for this summer.

The release opens with The Uncomfortable Truth with its self get on its lackadaisical way with some great trumpets before the strong vocals of Nneka kick in. This is a soulful and heartfelt offering which is at the more soulful end of Nneka’s musical spectrum.

The other track on the release is Stand Strong which is backed with pianos and gentle vibes over which Nneka shows her vocal versatility with breathy moans before the main rhythm kicks in and she switches up to deliver with more determination and power. The bassline is funky and really makes for a deep groove. All throughout the track builds and is complete in its arrangement.

All the production work is done by DJ Farhot and he is certainly someone to look out for as he produces a quality sounds. Be sure to check for the soulstress Nneka.
