Ivory and Paul S aren’t so much down by law as by unanimous international judiciary. Having drawn direct parallels between the original Bronx incarnation of the culture and the creative instincts found in their native Nottingham, the P Brothers are quite simply a Hip Hop purist’s wet dream. Their sought after Heavy Bronx 12 inch series established their mandate for abrasive drums and general eardrum battery; while a series of acclaimed old school mixes only fanned the flames and cemented their reps.

But I have to admit, it was a blow when their LP proper ‘The Gas’ arrived on CD only. But the harsh reality is that pressing vinyl is dear and the market for it is shrinking – even “the real Hip Hop” can’t escape the clasp of the credit crunch. Luckily, they’ve seen sense and pressed up a vinyl EP of the remaining album cuts that haven’t already surfaced on wax, including the future classic Digital B-Boy and the solid Outta Control, Cold World and In A Zone featuring Roc Marciano, Money Boss and Milano respectively. You’d have to be deaf and dumb not to want this nestling in your crates; every home should have one!
