The Bug a.k.a. Kevin Martin’s last record, The Pressure, was a huge hit in underground circles and he has been know to work with top ragga vocalists such as Daddy Freddy, Sizzla, Cutty Ranks and Tippa Irie to name a few. Now he has signed with Ninja Tune and is set to release an LP soon. First comes the Jah War single, which features vocals by Flowdan from the legendary Roll Deep crew.
Jah War sees a whole load of genres mingle up next to each other. The primary feel is one of grime, but the vocals also bring a raga feel. It is reported that The Bug linked Flowdan after being consistently blown away by the lyricist's stand out live appearances. With more collaborations planned for the future The Bug and Flowdan combine for a powerful combination.
The B-side is a remix by dubstep all-star Loefah, Dubstep's heaviest producer and co-founder of the infamous DMZ label / night. The remix, which combines many of the original production’s sounds, but has a more stripped back sound, feel the bass!
The Bug’s choice of Lowfah for the remix was simple as Approaching the low end specialist was easy choice, as Loefah and The Bug have been running BASH, a monthly Dancehall / Dubstep club night at Plastic People in London, since the beginning of 2006.
I have only seen the CD, but apparently this release also comes in the vinyl format with a specially packaged opaque red PVC plastic sleeve with custom sticker on front.
