West London artist-producer Anton ‘Nutty P‘ Flanders has humbly influenced the sound of UK music for over two decades. From his beginnings at Lancaster Youth Club to working with the best of British artists, including Ghetts, Giggs, Wretch32 and Wiley, the imminent release of his creative, complex mixtape Nerdz On The Block is a decisive moment in his career.
An eclectic, fantastical project, the listener is transported into an intergalactic futuristic multiverse, where DJ Mike guides us through an ancient relic from Earth – Nutty P’s mixtape Nerdz on the Block, released way back in 2022. NOTB Vol. 1 captures a slice of London life, empowering us to transcend the ends, exceeding expectations and exploring the cosmos.
Woven together with his distinct sounds of bass heavy grime-dipped neo-drill beats twisted with sophisticated chord progression and lover’s rock, we are welcomed into the hazardous, harmonic experiences of the hood.
Wise, witty, Nutty P’s provocative, insightful lyricism is always tinged with a dark comedic filter. His voice empowers the disenfranchised, speaks as eloquently to his experiences of racism, addiction and mental health challenges as it does to heady escapism, city nights, and romantic entanglements.
This project demands societal and political change, pushes its listeners to reject conventional stereotypes of the hood and disrupt the oppressive narratives that seek to contain and control. Nutty P proposes an uprising, one in which the nerdz on the block launch a rebellion infused with the values he learnt on the streets of West London, but which encourage education, imagination and creativity to transcend the ends.
