Philly native Sic Osyrus has featured on over 70 mixtapes and this is his latest solo affair and part three of his own series. Not only does it showcases his style, flair but also his sound which he has described as, "my strength, my flaws, my fears, my ups and downs" all of which is more than evident from this album.
This mixtape is a tape of two halves. Catchy commercial tunes such as the blazing hot opener Welcome to the Summertime and the radio friendly Life of Mine (featuring the sweet vocals of D Malone) are balanced by harder edged gangster bangers like Make Moves and the Bobby Womack sampling Drive Thru It providing something for every hip hop fan.
The two freestyle tracks on the CD truly demonstrate Sic Osyrus’s lyrical skills on the mic over some very recognisable beats. This isn’t a one-man show however and Sic Osyrus has some help along the way from some of his friends. Emilio Rojas, Nico the Beast and Push Montana take verses on the heavy hitting Monsta while Drawzilla and Oun P feature on the equally menacing Fix yo Face up with Esso and Savkillz on the remix of I Still Love Her.
Production comes from a variety of sources but is predominantly handled by Drawzilla who has produced records with C.L. Smooth, Sonja Blade and Sadat X of Brand Nubian.
The closing track is The O Step ending the album on an upbeat note and perhaps heralding the start of a new dance craze. I guess if it can work for Soulja Boy why can’t it work for Sic Osyrus.
