Holdin' Court Sat 30th January 2010

Holdin' Court… one of few independent Hip-Hop, Funk and Soul nights outside of London and based in the South East, celebrated its 1st Birthday last Saturday 30th Jan at The White Hart, Basingstoke in Hampshire.

Performances by local favourite Mikey-T, Louie G, DJ Juice and Brother Beatbox alongside Mavrik of Realms of Rhyme and resident DJ's Zoots, Shep, Hooshang and Ivan6 meant the venue was at near full capacity for this jam packed night of entertainment.

The night began around 8pm with residents playing a selective mix of Oldskool and Current Hip-Hop from the UK & US. Just after 9.30pm the nights host, Deeflux of FAN Records took to the stage to host the Open-mic which featured Dougie Chats and Alex Language of Twisted Link who headlined the very first Holdin’ Court back in Feb last year, Lord Lav hailing from Southampton and Holdin’ Courts very own Doctor Zoots. After each emcee had a minute round to rap over either a beat provided by DJ Ivan6, a Beatbox beat provided by resident Beatboxer Vocal Madness or simply Accapella. Alex Language and Doctor Zoots made it through to the final that Alex Language went on to win.

Following this was a set by Mavrik of Realms of Rhyme, performing solo material whilst Doctor Zoots then took to the Wheels of steel. Mikey-T came next accompanied by Brother Beatbox who were joined for an exclusive track performance by Deeflux.

By this time, the crowd was packed right to the front, captured by the performances they bared witness to, each act seizing their opportunity to rock the crowd.

Lenzie da Vandal of Idle Hands provided pleasing aesthetics by creating a live-illustration throughout the evening and free birthday cake and pin badges were given out upon entry.

The resident DJ’s continued to keep the crowd hyped until Louie G and DJ Juice arrived to perform around 45 minutes of material. With great professionalism, their experience showed and the majority of spectators remained fixated on the act the whole time they were on.

DJ Hooshang, who is leaving to live in California, played a farewell set of pure bangers. DJ Ivan6 and Shep of SS Radio played out as the crowd partied on in the name of Independent Hip-Hop!
