Raw Music UK is a different kind of record label. Set up as a social enterprise by In-volve and funded by the Big Lottery, it is dedicated to working with young people who have raw talent, but lack the opportunities to develop and benefit from them. They provide the support in order to produce marketable products and develop the young people into professional artists.
In-volve is a UK national charity that has been supporting young people facing issues around drugs and crime since 1987. It has adopted creative approaches to empower young people to overcome difficulties, and one of the tools used is music.
The most talented young people have been developed into artists and have produced several songs. In the process, some genuine hidden raw talent has been discovered.
The label’s name reflects its mission: to uncover the raw energy and natural talent emerging from the UK’s streets and promote it to a wider audience.
Raw Music UK – The Launch (RM001) was a successful event scheduled for the 13th March 2007 that celebrated the birth of Raw Music UK. The night has provided an opportunity to experience some of these young performers in action.
The concert also included a gracious performance from Lady Seeker who has just been signed by the label. Here is some serious talent to watch.
The evening included YMC Hillingdon performing “London City”, a catchy song which might just become an anthem for our capital. The band has indeed applied for the “Sing London” competition which is looking for a London anthem to celebrate London as city of the 21st century. Crossed fingers! They are also working at the “London City” video clip which will be shot in the next few days.
The evening introduced us with D Fam’s, War Marshall, and an “original and fresh performance” from Addigio. Roll Deep, finally, performed songs from their mixtape “Rules And Regulations” before a quick freestyle.
Raw Music UK artists will be performing at the Festival of Youth Arts which will take place from the Saturday 26th May to the Friday 1st June at different venues in London (www.festivalofyoutharts.org.uk).
Raw music UK will be releasing its first EP during the summer 2007.
