When J5 descended onto the UK in the late nineties they caused an earthquake. Literally. Rap’s barbershop quartet tore through the music industry and became one of the few genuine hip hop crossover acts. An act that subsequently helped popularize hip hop to a mainstream UK audience.
That's right Skitz's album Sticksman will soon be out and to celebrate he's having a party! It's at Cargo on 13th July and he's got loadsa musical friends to come to bring some goodness, look at the flyer. You can rest assured that I'll be reviewing the album so come back here for that!
Well, what can I say? Quality! I receive a huge amount of CD’s each month and I have to say that 80% of them are, to put it bluntly, shit. So when I do pick up a half decent album it stands out like a green jacket with an orange belt.
DJ Krush is one of the most successful hip-hop producers outside of the US and has evolved his sound over a series of flawless albums since his eponymous debut in 1994. His second album Strictly Turntablised (Mowax) was entirely instrumental and the music press began to use the term ‘trip-hop’ to describe his trademark sound, sparse mid tempo breakbeats with a smoked-out atmosphere.
‘Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra’, the world’s first ever human beatboxing choir, will be making their debut to a sell-out crowd at London’s Purcell Room on March 18th 2007.
Kung Fu presents an all new freestyle event, bringing back the original freestyle concept, through three elimination rounds, culminating in the "Five Word Final". In each round a number of words will be called out by the crowd and written on the board, each contestant will have to use their individual words in their freestyle.
On March 18th 2007, hundreds of music fans will witness a special performance of live music by Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra, performed using only the mouths, lips, tongues and vocal cords of 15 singers and beatboxers.
