The last few years have proven to be some of the finest in the history of British hip-hop, with the ever increasing number of solid emcees emerging, and with them some premier independent record labels that continue to flourish with every passing day. The sheer volume of commendable releases from last year alone was a sure sign that things only continue to get bigger and better for UK hip-hop enthusiasts, and that someday soon hopefully the mainstream industry will catch up and wise up to what they've been missing out on.

AC – Prophecy For Profit EP [Indie]

For those of you who don't know about Northwest London emcee AC you really do need to get switched on to this incredibly dedicated and passionate artist. This new five track EP from AC is the official prelude to his brand new album 'Keep It Together' which is currently just getting the finishing touches and is due out soon. It sees AC team up with producer Deadman Walkn who gives up four brilliant beats and who has worked with the likes of Genesis Elijah, Wordsmiff, Terra Slim.

Maze – Here To Stay LP [M.I.Music]

Maze is from Leicester, Belgrave to be precise. He started DJing on pirate radio at 16 and soon hooked up with Oxford based rappers Thunda Tongue and Tung-Fu in 1994 and was at that time mentored by Spida Gill (RIP). 1997 saw Maze hook up with Kerfew for their earliest collaborations and since then he has been instrumental in the WCE (World Champion Entertainment) and MIC (Mother India’s Children) crews.

Kerfew was born and bred in Leicester and has been learning music since the age of 7 when he started to play the Tabla and Naal. Multi instrumented Kerfew also took up the trumpet and violin. He progress further in the music arena by linking with a pirate radio station where he rose from the ranks from taking calls, to doing the graveyard slot, through to getting on the primetime weekend shows.
