Fucking hell. I spent last night (from 8pm through til about 3am) at the Fav, chilling with the Leeds Hip-Hop Scene boys and more importantly catching up with Billy Brimstone AKA Jehst for a filmed interview.
Student-friendly Hip-Hop night New Bohemia returned to The Faversham in time for the new academic year with a strong line-up of local acts that bodes well for the coming season. They've now got a semi-regular arrangement with the boys at Leeds Hip-Hop Scene which will see some new talent getting slots to complement the First Word roster plus of course the usual big UK names such as Jehst, who will be making an appearance on the 21st.
Friday night saw New-York indie spitter Pharoahe Monch roll over to the Fav as part of his UK tour. Monch is best known his breakthrough single, the Godzilla-theme-sampling "Simon Says", which featured on his debut solo album "Internal Affairs", released on Rawkus Records way back in 1999 when the label was still worth a shit.
So, another week, another NewBo hip-hop connection to check out. This time, the very guy who sparked the term "(Adventures in) New Bohemia", the hardcore UK heads' favourite weed-addled word-abuser, Jehst... also known as Billy Brimstone, The Real Prince William, Jehstafairi, J-Star and probably a few billion other names he's thrown out on freestyles I haven't heard yet.
