The Antagonist is one busy busy man. In between writing rhymes, making beats, running his own company CaliFlorida Productions, he has also managed to release five mixtapes this year alone. His latest CD aptly titled International, comprises of 20 tracks, twelve of which he produced himself, all featuring the US rapper rhyming, singing and baring his soul.
Once we were put on to Real Life we had to hear more. This artist has an authentic sound that is classic Hip Hop. Even though he is from the South he has a funky sound derived from samples and drops his rhymes in a clear and concise manner. I felt there was a touch of Mad Skillz about him, but he is his own man and is able to rap on a variety of deep topics.
Mainstream hip hop has cleverly twisted our cerebrums into creating aspirations of gangsterdom and success through violence and lies as opposed to intellect and hard work. It’s unrealistic and treacherous. It’s not real life. It’s a way of coping with real life by focussing all your energy on something fake. It might make things easier for a bit. But in the long term it sings failure all the way.
