The hip-hop community was given something to get excited about recently, with a debut trailer for an upcoming independent documentary by filmmaker Dean Huson. What's Real? A Hip Hop Documentary is the directors first feature length outing, and it's certainly an ambitious one. The film features introspective interviews and tour footage from a veritable crème de la crème of British and US underground artists, and is set to explore definitions of "real" in the eyes of a rabid hardcore audience.

Holdin' Court are pleased to announce Fliptrix, Verb-T and DJ Madnice of High Focus Records will be performing at their first official event in Reading this November. In support of the above is Cracker Jon who is gaining momentum of his own and has been identified by Fliptrix as someone to watch out for!

In its 28th glorious year, DMC continues to bring together the globe's freshest DJ talents, vetted by a series of gruelling heats from London to Tokyo and Brazil, all culminating in one of the most entertaining and jaw dropping shows you will ever witness. This year's UK Final will be even more mouth wateringly, boundary pushing than the last with fantastic competitors from around the country battling for a place at the World Finals.

You would have to have been living under a rock recently to ignore the ever-growing presence of the Don’t Flop Rap battle League in the UK scene, so I recently caught up with Sensa, one of the league’s top MC’s, to pick his brains on the subject.

Up and coming producer Jon Phonics first emerged in 2006, banging out beats for artists such as M9 and Doc Brown. He has since lent his talents to a number of projects including the YNR compilation Feeding Time at the Zoo and Verb T's Verbs With A Vengeance album.

We caught up with the man ahead of his headlining spot at The Doctors Orders Dilla Tribute Special (20th February @ Jam  9 -12 Middle St Brighton).

Justice, aka “Wonder Woman”, writer, artist, producer, actress, sound engineer and the socially conscious CEO of Hotep Productions and S.O.S (supporting our sisters) supporting women in the community using music as a therapy to work with sisters affected by domestic violence, presently featured on BBC 1Xtra, New style radio, BBC WM, the Observer newspaper and Dazed and Confused Magazine, as well as showcases with MTV Base and 1Xtra.

Every now and then something really fresh comes along, something that little bit different that makes it stand out from the crowd. Newcomer Jyager’s raps and Cee Why’s beats have that thing; ‘Encrypted Scriptures’ is a striking album. It’s still Hip Hop as we know it but, as you’d expect from YNR, it’s finely tuned and well polished and that’s what sets it apart.
