The curtain raiser for the new ‘Hauntology Codes‘ LP, the cult UK crusader and visual artist sprays street corner barbs, pantsing the opposition with a flurry of one-liners. As he flips “that emotional baggage into 16s and a neat rap package“, Spectacular Diagnostics provides hectic, highly-strung beats, with Honey JD directing the traffic on visuals.
‘Hauntology Codes’ is Kid Acne’s sixth solo album and continues to tackle the off kilter with disarming self-deprecation, with the title nailing the true aesthetics of hip-hop in its fiftieth year. Chicago’s Spectacular Diagnostics (who Acne provided artwork for on this year’s ‘Raw Lessons‘ LP) is back reporting for a third stint on production, unveiling another slew of gritty, self-styled Moon Bap beats; while Acne stars as “bombastic graffiti b*stard” one minute, “rhyme Dionysus” the next.
After ‘Null And Void‘ and ‘Have A Word‘ the Kid Acne machine, over twenty years undefeated on walls and in ears, rolls on: no nonsense Yorkshire raising a titillatingly quizzical eyebrow, “spitting bars through the avant garde avatar“.
