Wilko Wilkes - Life (Tickertape Synaesthesia)

Bingley alternative rapper Wilko Wilkes is going back to school to share his mental health journey with the next generation in his new song, Life (Tickertape Synaesthesia).

He talks openly in his music catalogue about his lifelong experiences with depression, as therapy for himself and with the hope that it may inspire others to open up or seek help if they are struggling. This song is named after a condition that Wilko experiences which has numerous effects such as an unusual memory for words, and seeing subtitles when people speak.

The track is a complete reimagination of classic 90s pop song Life, by Des’ree, with a take on the familiar chorus flanked by three epic rap verses containing nearly 1,000 words. Wilko takes the listener on a reflective and nostalgic journey through life’s stages, via his own experiences of mental health, social norms, and the living experience.
