With the changing landscape of music, the prominence of voices from the disenfranchised has become a lot more audible, none more so than Isatta Sheriff an MC, a rapper, producer and songwriter who began in an era where pirate and unlicensed radio stations were the only place you could be heard.
With time and growth, she has developed from a firebrand to an eloquent voice of not only the city (London) but also of a generation. The rising rapper rose to prominence due to her profound and conscious lyricism which remains at the heart of everything she does.
With work ranging from features for Flying Lotus, Oddisee, Arrested Development to Athletic Progression, Wretch 32, Saul Williams, Koralle and Moo Latte, she consistently showcases a blend of lyricism, consciousness and sound production.
Radio play (including BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, and BBC Radio 1Xtra) and live performances have all served as a platform much deserved and worked for.
A multi-faceted individual with a master’s degree in music business, Isatta’s self-produced EP ‘A Kind Of Biography‘ was released in 2021 on her newly formed label Doctored Sound, where she also released four new act’s to the UK scene on the compilation “The Miseducation of the Insta Generation” in April 2022.
She also works as an artist development and music consultant for the likes of The Rap Game UK. Adding to this, Isatta worked as a teacher for years.
September 2022 will see Isatta release of a joint EP with Italian producer Koralle via the German based label Melting Pot, featuring some of the UK’s most promising talent including Lex Amor, Mercy’s Cartel and Awate, proving to be an exciting year for the “masterful mc“ (Mary Anne Hobbs).
Easily one of the hardest working people in the scene, Isatta is always focused on self-improvement and has an unwavering devotion to her craft, lacing rhymes with humour and remaining remarkably consistent. The forthcoming project ‘Eat The Kiwi Skin‘ is a Rap-heavy project with Isatta making music on her own terms and speaking freely on subjects that are close to her heart.
Following up the first two singles with this thought-provoking third release, she has set the tone for what is to come on this project and beyond.
