We have been informed that due to unforseen circumstances Onyx show scheduled for tomorrow 4th August has had to be postponed. No reason given, but I guess the use of the term postponed suggests that the gig may be re-arranged sometime in the future. Was looking forward to getting rowdy so its a pity this has not come off, but these things happen.

IBMCs headed up to Finland to find out more about Finnish Hip Hop. We interviewed Laineen Kasperi, Redrama and Jonti and Shaka. In the Finnish Hip Hop scene most of the rap is in Finnish. One of the biggest emcees to rap in English is known as Redrama. He is a Helsinki-based rapper and producer. His first breakthrough was by winning the Finnish MC-Championship in 2001, the same year his first EP came out.

It sees Tomz touch on subjects that others might be scared to touch on and is a little bit of a wake up call for those living in silence.

UK RnB singer Steelo 1 releases his new single City on Lock featuring a trio of South London rap talent; Sneakbo, English Frank and DVS. The single epitomises the artists enjoying their success in the city of London and delivering a party anthem for the Summer. The track has a relaxed summer vibe and is somewhat reminiscent of the old Mark Morrison tracks.

The Languages of Global Hip Hop is a book that examines Hip Hop music in Germany, France, Egypt, Hungary, South Korea, Greece, Cyprus, Norway and the US. It is the work of academics who have gained insights about sociolinguistics from this study. I caught up with the editor on skype to see what some of her views were.
