Southside Willy - Dad Bod

This is the debut Southside Willy album entitled Dad Bod. The Dorset based MC has been working up to this and brings his own style, a mix of banging classic nineties style beats and comedic raps which harmlessly poke fun at himself.

This the the opposite of gangster, more Fresh Prince, but that has its own merits. The humour and story telling is engaging and is a welcome break to the harsh realities. This LP takes us into suburbia and reminiscence for a youth lost.

Unashamedly being himself this LP is the result of having given up music for a family, but now coming back to making music. Southside Willy is doing it on his own terms with no pressure or need to conform. Whether it is about staying up too late to play computer games (The Morning After), being a father to two children under two (Kids), the importance of a life partner and soulmate (Wifey) this all has Southside Willy’s unique touch and outlook.

The LP is a full twelve tracks of down to earth relatable Hip Hop delivered with heavy sarcasm and self deprecating humour. Family is a recurring theme because that is Southside Willy’s lived reality. The album also sees the first time Southside Willy gets a bit more serious on deeper tracks such as Tadpole which talks about the weeks following an emotional miscarriage.

This is Hip Hop for fans of the likes of Dr. Syntax, Goldie Lookin Chain and ExP (of Flame Griller fame). If you like your UK Hip Hop down to earth with a sense of humour, make sure Dad Bod is in your rotation!
